Maxwell students awarded Critical Language Scholarships

Ana Monzon, a graduate student in public relations and international relations, Jade Rhoads, a junior majoring in geography and Russian language and literature, and Giovanna Saccoccio, a junior majoring in public relations and international relations all received the U.S. Department of State's Critical Language Scholarship to study Bahasa Indonesian, Russian, and Turkish, respectively.

Eric Heighberger ’93 BA (IR) appointed chief of staff at FEMA

Prior to his current role with FEMA, from 2013-2017, Heighberger was deputy staff director for the House Homeland Security Committee. He has also held other roles at FEMA; during the George W. Bush Administration he served as deputy director for legislative affairs, and later as advisor to former administrator David Paulison and deputy administrator Harvey Johnson.

Boroujerdi, student Abdulkadir featured in DO story on immigration ban

Next week, Professor of Political Science Mehrzad Boroujerdi said, the University planned to host a scholar who has been imprisoned in Iran. Now, he is unsure if the scholar will be able to come to SU at all. “It’s a serious infringement on our academic rights,” he said.

D'Amico serves on screening committee for Fulbright-Clinton Fellowship

Francine D'Amico, associate professor of international affairs, served on the National Screening Committee for the Fulbright-Clinton Public Policy Fellowship 2017-2018 offered through the Institute of International Education. The committee is comprised of area specialists and authorities in various fields who review applications and nominate candidates to the award sponsors.

Maxwell seniors among honored Remembrance Scholars

In total, 35 Syracuse University students were celebrated at a convocation, memorializing those lost in the bombing of Pan Am 103. The Remembrance Scholarships are among the most prestigious scholarships awarded by Syracuse University.

MacPherson '16 BA (IR) earns first-team Academic All-America® honors

To be eligible for Academic All-America® honors, student-athletes must be a starter or key reserve, achieve sophomore standing at their current school, maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.3 and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Maxwell alumnus Cameron MacPherson '16 B.A. (IR) is one of the honorees.
