Maxwell School Joins Volcker Alliance to Bring Next Generation Leadership Corps to University
The program will provide training and experiential learning for future public servants across Syracuse’s schools and colleges.

In Memoriam: Life Trustee Allan D. Sutton ’55 BA (PSc)
Through his generosity to Syracuse University, he had a profound impact on the reputation of the Department of Philosophy and advanced the careers of some of the nation’s brightest philosophy scholars. Sutton passed away on May 31, 2023, in his home in Rancho Santa Fe, California, at the age of 90.

Maxwell School Ranks #1 for Public Affairs in 2024
Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs is ranked #1 overall in a survey of its peers and is highly ranked in ten subspecialties, according to the 2024 U.S. News & World Report Best Public Affairs School rankings. The school has received the top honor in 12 of the 13 years in which the peer surveys have been conducted; this year, the honor is shared with Indiana University’s O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.

A joint initiative of the Newhouse and Maxwell schools, the institute will promote nonpartisan, evidence-based research and dialogue in the public interest and support the work of faculty and students.

Win-Win-Win Situation
Maxwell School’s X Lab is helping the City of Syracuse collect overdue property taxes by redesigning their letters with a graphic, attention-grabbing message that has resulted in nearly $100,000 of unlikely payments. The X Lab, created a year and a half ago, has the potential for other scholars, offering students real-world sandboxing opportunities and working with public and nonprofit clients at a lower cost than private consultants.

“Tomorrow’s careers will require individuals with critical and synthetic thinking, analytical and analogical reasoning, written and oral presentation skills, and diverse and global experiences,” says Maxwell Dean David Van Slyke. “That’s a tall order for any university, school or program. But at the Maxwell School, these have always been our goals, and undergraduates will find professors, staff, fellow students and alumni who share this broad outlook.”
